Accreditation & Standardization Committee
The Accreditation & Standardization Committee of the Nepal Library Association (NLA) is a specialized body established to enhance the quality, consistency, and accountability of library and information services across Nepal. Its primary purpose is to develop, implement, and monitor national standards and accreditation frameworks for libraries and information centers in line with international best practices and Nepal’s educational development goals.
Objectives:
- To formulate and promote library standards, guidelines, and benchmarks for all types of libraries in Nepal.
- To develop accreditation criteria and processes for evaluating libraries, library schools, and related institutions.
- To support libraries in achieving quality assurance, resource development, infrastructure improvement, and human resource competency.
- To coordinate with national bodies such as the Ministry of Education, University Grants Commission (UGC), and international organizations like IFLA and UNESCO.
- To advocate for the integration of standards in library policy, funding, and institutional recognition.
Key Functions:
- Draft and publish National Library Standards and Accreditation Guidelines.
- Evaluate libraries for accreditation on request and in collaboration with educational bodies.
- Conduct training, workshops, and consultations on quality standards and best practices.
- Maintain a database of accredited institutions and regularly review their status.
- Serve as a think tank for policymaking and quality control in the field of librarianship.
Composition:
The committee includes senior librarians, academic professionals, policy experts, and representatives from government and non-government institutions. It works in close consultation with national and international stakeholders to ensure the standards are relevant, inclusive, and sustainable.
